The ARLENE TEA CUP features the renowned Japanese Shinoyaki (志野焼) production process, incorporating raw clay, agate, and gold inlay techniques to achieve a rugged yet impressive appearance and a simple, rustic charm. Each piece of Shinoyaki is distinct.
The production process and characteristics of Shinoyaki
The Shinoyaki process has a history of more than 400 years. It uses a variety of old rock muds to form the embryos by hand, and then adds glaze and fires at a high temperature of 1300 degrees. Its glaze characteristics include "glaze like flowing clouds and fat like snow", with a thick feldspar glaze, smooth and delicate to the touch, like baby skin. The glaze surface is usually uneven, full of "orange peel" and "brown eyes", which is due to the unique effect formed by the iron element in the glaze during the heating and cooling process.
